One of the weirdest features in our house is the downstairs bathroom. I call it a quarter bathroom because it doesn't have a sink. Our realtor calls it a flush.
It has a new name: the construction site.
We knew when we looked at the house that we wanted a second full bathroom. We also knew that this bathroom needed a sink. We debated making the world's tiniest bathroom in our bedroom, but ultimately decided to make this one into a full bath by buying a stacked washer dryer instead of the current full sized units.
As with all contractor projects, there are surprises. The entire floor is concrete, which makes dealing with the shower the hard part. Our contractor let us know that we could stay relatively within budget if we did the painting ourselves, which we agreed to. (So if you want to come over to paint...let us know). We also had to pick out tile, which we took care of at the Tile Shop last night.
We ended up picking a bluish grey ("
Himalaya Black") with swirls of gold in it, which does not look at all dissimilar to the linoleum that was in there. It's prettier in person, and it also fit within our budget and has enough texture to it that hopefully it won't be too slick for people coming in from outside with muddy or wet shoes, and for people getting out of the shower.
It was not my favorite, but since this isn't our primary bathroom, it didn't seem worth it to spend $13/sq foot on tile. The tile will be in Saturday, but since it's the last thing to go in, that'll be fine. We have to deal with the W/D in the meantime, which is proving to be more difficult. If we can't find somebody to take it by tonight, we may have to have Habitat for Humanity pick it up.
